Sichenje has not played since February 28, having suffered a hamstring injury in his third game for the club against Wrexham, but he is now back in training, giving fans hope of a return in the next few days.

Charlton play at home to Preston on Saturday but the game will come too soon for Sichenje, who has already missed six matches due to the injury.

“Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jones revealed that Miles Leaburn (ankle) and Collins Sichenje (hamstring) are both back on the grass,” the club said on Friday in their pre-match team news update.

The Harambee Stars defender was also photographed in training but he seemed to be going through individual sessions, indicating that he is still not fully ready to play.

Charlton coach Nathan Jones had hinted in March that he expected Sichenje back after the international break but he has missed two games already since the end of the FIFA window and is in line for the third although he could play a part when the Addicks take on Sheffield Wednesday on April 18.

Sichenje had played three straight games for Charlton since signing from Serbian club Vojvodina in January, making his debut against Southampton, when he played 90 minutes, before getting 55 minutes against West Brom and then 77 minutes in the clash with Wrexham.

It is in the clash against Wrexham that he sustained the muscle injury, costing him his place in the Harambee Stars squad for the FIFA Series in Rwanda, but there is now hope of a return to competitive action in the coming days.
