Chris Erambo: How Injury Return Can Reignite Tusker's Title Race
Tusker FC head coach Charles Okere is celebrating the timely return of midfield powerhouse Chris Erambo whose comeback is expected to significantly bolster the Brewers’ push for consistency this season.
Erambo had been sidelined for six weeks after aggravating an ankle injury sustained during the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign with the national team.
Before the setback, the industrious midfielder had featured in Tusker’s opening two matches of the season, offering glimpses of the sharpness and authority that has defined his game since joining the club.
Erambo made his long-awaited return last weekend, coming on as a second-half substitute against Gor Mahia at Kasarani, a moment that lifted both the technical bench and supporters.
“It is a good welcome back for Erambo. He is a tactical and technical player with a good command on and off the ball and we are happy with his progress and that he is finally back. He got a few minutes at Gor and it was a good first step in getting fully back in and we are happy with the progress he has made this week. He is a player of national team quality and a great addition to our camp,” coach Okere told the club portal.
Erambo’s return is a massive boost to the team especially after the departure of Issa Lumumba and Dennis Iguma’s current injury. Since joining Tusker from Mombasa Elite, Erambo has been a revelation.
He quickly became the pivot upon which Tusker’s transition play relies, making him indispensable in high-pressure matches.
However, the midfield reshuffle continues as Okere manages other fitness concerns. Okere has also provided an update on the Ugandan international who picked an ankle sprain in last week’s final training session before facing Gor Mahia.
“Iguma is a very important player in our set up this season and it is unfortunate that he got a knock and has been ruled out. He is however responding well with treatment and the medical team is doing its best to ensure he returns soon,” the coach explained.
Iguma will once again miss the trip to Awendo to face Mara Sugar on Saturday, but is expected to return to on-field training next week.
