Calvin Bassey to be sixth Super Eagles star at Craven Cottage as Fulham and Ajax agree deal
Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey is a step closer to playing in the  Premier League next season.
Dutch giants Ajax have reportedly agreed to let the Nigerian leave the club just 12 months after he joined them.
The 22-year-old joined the then-Dutch champions last summer from Scottish side Glasglow Rangers in a club-record transfer for a defender.
Fulham and Ajax agree to Bassey fee
But after a difficult first season at the club, Bassey is on the move and will play in the Premier League for Fulham.
According to a report from Reon Boeringa, the Cottagers will sign Bassey after an agreement for his transfer fee was reached with Ajax.
Fulham will pay a fee of 21 million euros for the defender who will put pen to paper on a long-term contract at Craven Cottage.
The Dutch side has also added a resale clause in the deal to ensure they benefit from any future Bassey sale.
Bassey not keen
Meanwhile, the report added that Bassey was not interested in the move earlier in the week.
The versatile defender was on the radar of another Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
But Fulham appear to have hijacked the transfer and won, with Bassey now keen to move on after Ajax gave him their blessing.
Should Bassey complete the transfer to Fulham, he will become the sixth Super Eagles star to have played for the club's first team.
He will follow in the footsteps of compatriots like Dickson Etuhu, Sone Aluko, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman and Josh Maja as the Nigerians to have featured in the first team.
