Boniface, who was close to a €60 million move to Al-Nassr during the winter transfer window, remains a top target for several clubs.
Boniface’s near move to Saudi Arabia
Boniface’s January transfer saga reached its peak when he was on the verge of signing for Saudi Arabian giants Al-Nassr.
The Nigerian forward had already passed a medical and was set to earn an estimated €15 million per season in Saudi Arabia.
However, in a last-minute twist, Al-Nassr opted to sign Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran instead of the Super Eagles star.
The Colombian forward became the second most expensive signing by a Saudi club, moving for €77 million, surpassing Moussa Diaby’s €60 million move to Al-Ittihad.
As a result, Boniface’s transfer fell through, and he returned to Leverkusen, scoring in his next two matches against Koln and Hoffenheim.
No official talks with Newcastle yet
Although regional sources have suggested that Newcastle United have been in contact with Boniface’s representatives, BILD reports that there have been no negotiations between the two clubs.
Bayer Leverkusen are currently focused on their Bundesliga and European campaigns, and with no pressure to sell, any summer transfer will likely depend on the player’s wishes and the offers on the table.
With the summer window approaching, Newcastle's interest in Boniface could develop further, but for now, the Nigerian international remains committed to Leverkusen as they chase silverware this season.
Boniface has also been linked to a move to other Premier League clubs, with the Nigerian hitman in high demand after his impressive scoring record with Bayer Leverkusen.
