Benni McCarthy: Our Focus Has Shifted to the Next Game
Benni McCarthy said that the team’s attention had already moved on to their upcoming fixture, with preparations now centred on building from the positives shown in their previous outing.
The Harambee Stars coach noted that the players had demonstrated strong commitment and progress in that match, and the aim was to carry that momentum into the next challenge against Grenada.
Benni McCarthy expressed optimism that maintaining the same level of intensity and application could lead to another impressive display, while also stressing the importance of turning performances into results this time around.
He added that the squad had been edging closer to securing a victory and deserved credit for their consistent effort, indicating confidence that a breakthrough result could finally be achieved if they replicate their recent standards.
“Our focus has shifted to the next game, and obviously, we want to continue the good work we did in the last match, then bring it over to play Grenada, and hopefully, we can have a sterling performance like we did last time,” Benni McCarthy said.
“This time, I hope it will be with a better outcome and a win, because we are very close to getting one with the efforts the team has been putting in.”
Benni McCarthy expressed optimism ahead of the upcoming fixture, saying the team is aiming to finish the tournament strongly with a performance that reflects the work they have put in.
He noted that the squad deserves a positive ending and suggested that the coaching staff may use the match to rotate the lineup and allow different players to gain valuable minutes on the pitch.
The former Manchester United attacking coach also explained that the focus is not only on the current competition but also on long-term preparation for future major tournaments, indicating that the match could be used to assess squad depth and experiment with possible changes as part of ongoing team development.
“Looking forward to tomorrow, and hopefully we can round off this great tournament with a great performance. That’s what the team deserves,” he added.
“The idea is to give everybody a chance to get on the pitch and play some minutes, and to add to the quality that we have. We are preparing for the big one that is coming in 2027, and there might be some changes in the squad.”
