Kenyan defender Baron Ochieng could be about to lift his first trophy with Egyptian giants Zamalek just two months after joining the club.

Ochieng made a dream transfer to Zamalek in September from Kenyan side Sofapaka and although he has played sparingly, he could be lifting a trophy this weekend.

This is after Zamalek sealed a place in the Egyptian Super Cup final following a 5-4 win on post-match penalties over Pyramids, having played out a goalless draw in the semi-final.

Zamalek had a hard time against CAF Champions League winners Pyramids who wasted a host of chances before they were made to pay dearly in the shootouts.

Following the win, Zamalek, who last won the Super Cup in 2020, have set up a mouth-watering and potentially ill-tempered final with bitter rivals Al Ahly in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, on Sunday.

Zamalek Have Tough Task Against Al Ahly

Al Ahly edged out Ceramica Cleopatra 2-1 in the semi-final with Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan and Njec Gradishar scoring for them to set up the Cairo Derby final.

Ochieng is likely to play a very little part given he has just one game under his belt at Zamalek so far this season but will be among those celebrating silverware if they win.

It will, however, be a tough outing for the 14-time Egyptian champions, who have won the Super Cup four times, as Al Ahly have claimed the trophy in the last four years and are looking for a fifth in a row.

Zamalek will be encouraged by their recent record against Al Ahly as they have lost just one of their last five meetings, drawing three and winning the other.
