England international Aaron Ramsdale stole the show with former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in attendance as the Gunners lifted the 2023 Emirates Cup against AS Monaco.

Arsenal defeated the Ligue 1 side 5-4 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday.

Both goals were scored in the first half with Youssouf Fofana scoring the opener with a beautiful header to put Monaco ahead before Edward Nketiah equalised for the Gunners.

The game between the Gunners and Monaco turned out to be end-to-end stuff at the Emirates.

The home side dominated but found themselves behind against the run of play when a snap header from Fofana gave the visitors the lead.

Mikel Arteta’s men continued to dominate on the ball and threatened with record signing Declan Rice and Nketiah, who was denied by the Monaco goalkeeper, with the best chances to equalise for the Gunners.

Just before the break, the Gunners finally level when Nketiah found the perfect space and time to slot home from a corner.

It was no less than the home side deserved heading into the break.

The second half saw both teams fail to add to the scoreline, with the game to be decided through a penalty shootout where Arsenal emerged winners.
