Antony: Manchester United under pressure to drop winger after he allegedly abused ex-girlfriend

Brazilian winger Antony, who arrived at Manchester United for £84m last summer is facing accusations of assault made by his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.

Cavallin alleged that Antony assaulted her physically, and threatened to kill her before attacking her with a glass.

According to the Guardian, Manchester United are now facing serious calls to drop Antony from the squad until the situation is resolved.

The seriousness of the allegations have caused Brazil to drop Antony for their World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

The Brazilian Football Confederation statement read: 

“As a result of the facts that have come to light, and which need to be investigated, and in order to safeguard the supposed victim, the player, and the Brazilian national team the CBF have withdrawn [him] from the squad.”
