Isabirye has been in the news lately, with some reports pointing that he is about to part ways with Vipers.

The Buganda province team chairman Abdul Kawuulu Mwanje announced the appointment of Isabirye, taking over from Kyetume’s David Mutono.

Mwanje confirmed Isabirye’s appointment alongside eight of his backroom staff.

“As chairman of the mighty Buganda Province, I take this opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed technical team headed by Coach Alex Isabirye, assisted by Bastu Ssemuyaba, for this year’s FUFA Drum,” Mwanje announced.

Isabirye guided Buganda to their maiden title in the inaugural season in 2018, when he was voted the best coach in the tournament.

He has stayed two years out of the tournament after turning down Busoga Province’s request to take charge last year due to club commitments at BUL FC.

Buganda is pooled in Group D alongside Bunyoro and Tooro. They kick off their campaign on Sunday 16th, against Bunyoro at home.
