Africa's finest Lookman extends drought to five matches after another game to forget for Atalanta

In a much-needed victory for Atalanta, Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman featured as the Italian club snapped a three-game losing streak with a convincing 2-0 win over Bologna in Serie A. 

However, for Super Eagles forward Lookman, the match marked another frustrating outing as he extended his goal drought to five games for both club and country.

Atalanta's win was crucial in maintaining their position in the top four of the Serie A standings, with Matteo Retegui and Mario Pašalić scoring the decisive goals. 

Despite dominating possession, Lookman struggled to make an impact, playing for 81 minutes without creating a single scoring opportunity or completing any of his three attempted dribbles.

The 27-year-old Nigerian international has been one of Atalanta's key performers this season, but recent weeks have seen him struggle to find his scoring touch. 

His goal drought now spans five matches, a concerning trend for both Atalanta and the Nigerian national team.

The victory over Bologna was a welcome relief for Gian Piero Gasperini's side, which had been reeling from consecutive defeats against Inter Milan, Fiorentina, and Lazio. 

The win not only halted their losing streak but also kept them in contention for Champions League qualification, with Bologna just one point behind in the standings.

Bologna, who had been on a six-match unbeaten streak before drawing with Napoli, saw their momentum halted by Atalanta's solid defensive performance. 

Despite their recent form, Bologna's inability to capitalise on Atalanta's recent struggles meant they missed an opportunity to leapfrog their opponents on the table.

As the season enters its final stretch, Lookman will be eager to rediscover his scoring form to help Atalanta secure a top-four finish and Champions League football next season.
