The Kenya Police defender has been a regular feature in the national team setup, but more often than not finds himself at the centre of scrutiny, particularly when Harambee Stars fail to meet expectations in key matches.

Some sections of fans have even questioned his continued involvement in the squad, suggesting he should make way for younger players despite consistently earning call-ups from the coaching staff.

At club level, Abud Omar continues to face a similar situation, where his performances are frequently judged under intense pressure, highlighting the ongoing challenges he navigates as an experienced defender.

Abud Omar: I've Become So Tough

Speaking to Sports Radar, Abud Omar admitted that dealing with public scrutiny has been a significant part of his career, but explained that over time, he has developed a strong mental resilience that helps him cope with the pressure.

He noted that repeated exposure to criticism, especially during difficult moments, gradually strengthened his mindset to the point where negative comments no longer affect him the way they once did.

Abud Omar added that he now makes a conscious effort to protect his focus and emotional state, choosing not to dwell on outside opinions or let them interfere with his performances on the pitch.

He further emphasised that he accepts the nature of football, where supporters and observers will always have differing views, and acknowledged that it is impossible to satisfy everyone.

At the same time, he expressed understanding of the expectations placed on him and the team, recognising that fans demand high standards and results, which he respects, even as he remains focused on doing his job and continuing to improve.

“There is a lot, but nowadays I’m used to it because I’ve become so tough. When you’re always beaten and you cry a lot, it gets to a point where you become immune and don’t react to anything. At the moment, I don’t allow any kind of criticism to destroy my mood or even just think about it,” Abud Omar said.

“Someone can say whatever they want to say, it’s football, and people are entitled to their opinions. I cannot please everyone. I understand the fans, they want a lot from the team and me, and that’s okay.”
