Abraham Kibiwott recovers from nasty fall to take 3000m steeplechase Bronze behind El Bakkali and Girma

Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali triumphed after a close battle in the 3000m Steeplechase on Tuesday night beating World record holder Ethiopia’s Lamecha Girma.

Kenya's Abraham Kibiwot delivered a remarkable performance, clinching third place in a time of 8:11.9, despite a stumble while clearing a barrier.

Undeterred by the fall, he quickly regained his footing and successfully fended off a determined challenge from compatriot Leonard Kipkemoi Bett who came home fourth with a time of 8:12:26. 

The other Kenyan in the race, Simon Koech crossed the finish line in seventh place with a time of 8 minutes and 14.27 seconds.

During the journey to the final, Koech secured a commendable third position in the initial heat with a time of 8 minutes, 20.29 seconds. 

The victory in that heat was claimed by Wale, who crossed the finish line in 8 minutes, 19.99 seconds, displaying remarkable prowess.

Meanwhile Bett showcased his skill by clocking 8 minutes, 16.74 seconds in the third heat, which was won by Girma. 

Girma, renowned for holding the world record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, accomplished a time of 8 minutes, 15.89 seconds.

In the second heat, Kibiwott marked a time of 8 minutes, 24.31 seconds, securing a respectable fourth place. 

El Bakkali, who has previously clinched both Olympic and world titles, secured second place with a time of 8 minutes, 23.66 seconds. The heat's victory was claimed by American contender Kenneth Rooks, also recording a time of 8 minutes, 23.66 seconds.

At the 2022 edition, Morocco's indomitable Soufiane El Bakkali surged to the forefront, seizing the coveted crown of victory with unwavering determination.

Amidst the electrifying atmosphere, Ethiopia's Lamecha Girma showcased a valiant performance, clinching a well-deserved second spot on the podium, his spirit unshaken. 

However, it was the illustrious two-time World Champion Conseslus Kipruto who etched his name in the annals of history, solidifying his presence with a podium finish that radiated excellence.
