Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team returns to the legendary Safari Rally this weekend, aiming to continue its proud record of success on the epic African event.

Toyota Gazoo Racing Team Principal Jari-Matti Latvala has expressed his excitement and confidence ahead of the upcoming 2023 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally.

The Finland-based team clinched victory in the previous two editions of the rally under Latvala, who remains hopeful for another successful campaign.

In an interview, the 38-year-old former rally driver has acknowledged the formidable challenges that await his team.

"The Safari Rally has been a really exciting event for us in the last two years, and of course, we hope we can achieve another good result this time around, but we know it will not be easy," said Latvala.

Known as the longest and toughest rally in the championship, the Safari Rally offers a unique and demanding terrain that tests the endurance of both drivers and cars.

Latvala emphasized the importance of patience and strategic driving to navigate the treacherous stages successfully.

"We have seen that the modern Safari has the same spirit as before: it's the longest and toughest rally in the championship and very different from the others, as it's more about endurance and surviving stages that can be really difficult for the cars," he explained.

Acknowledging the skill and resilience of his drivers, Latvala expressed confidence in their ability to tackle the challenges presented by the Safari Rally.

With a four-car team representing Toyota Gazoo Racing in the 2023 WRC Safari Rally, led by reigning world champion Kalle Rovanperä, the team is poised for an impressive performance.

"For our drivers, patience is crucial to be able to push hard in the right moments and not when it's too rough. All four of our drivers have shown they have what it takes to succeed in Kenya and are ready for the challenge," Latvala stated, highlighting the team's collective readiness for the demanding event.

Having transitioned from his successful career as a driver, Latvala assumed the role of team principal in 2020.

His expertise and contributions were instrumental in developing the Yaris World Rally Car, which achieved its first victory in Sweden.

With an impressive record of 18 rally wins and the distinction of being the youngest driver to secure a WRC round victory at Rally Sweden in 2008, Latvala brings a wealth of experience to his leadership role within Toyota Gazoo Racing.

As the team gears up for the Safari Rally, all eyes will be on Toyota Gazoo Racing, with fans eagerly anticipating another stellar performance from the reigning champions.

The team's combination of skill, strategy, and determination will be put to the ultimate test in the challenging and unforgiving terrains of Kenya.
