KCB drivers, including reigning ARC champion Karan Patel, aim to reclaim top spots at the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally.

Reigning ARC champion Karan Patel, Nikhil Sachania, Uganda’s Michael Muluka, and Rwanda’s celebrated female rally star Queen Kalimpinya will be looking to shine as KCB Racing Team drivers eye top finishes at the Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally.

The Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally is the third leg of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC), which takes place from July 4 to 6 in Kigali.

The event has since received a major financial boost from BPR Bank, which has committed Ksh 4 million to support the quartet.

Karan Patel and his navigator, Tauseef Khan, are looking to make a mark in Rwanda despite the tough battle awaiting them.

Karan Patel will be looking to dethrone Uganda’s Yasin Nasser, who currently leads the Africa Rally Championship standings with 63 points.

The Kenyan duo of Nikhil Sachania and Carl Tundo are tied in second place with 50 points each.

Another Kenyan, Jeremiah Wahome, is currently fourth with 42 points, closely followed by Samman Vohra on 36 points.

Karan Patel is currently in sixth place in the rankings with 35 points, and the rally in Rwanda will offer him an opportunity to climb the rankings.

“We are the defending champions of the African Rally Championship. The first two rounds could have been better, but we have a point to prove in Rwanda,” Karan Patel said.

“The terrain has always favoured us, so I think we are more than ready to fly the KCB and Kenyan flags high at the event that will be graced by top rally drivers on the continent,” noted Karan Patel.

On her part, KCB Group Director Marketing and Communications Rosalind Gichuru emphasised KCB’s continued support for motorsport.

“The Rwanda leg presents another exciting opportunity for our drivers to showcase their skill and resilience on the continental stage,” she added.

At least 35 drivers will be in action at the event, looking to cover a 386-kilometre ride. The event will kick off with the opening round at Kigali Convention Centre before heading to Bugesera for another two rounds of battle on the dusty roads of Gako and Nemba.

The Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally, formerly known as the Fraternity Rally, is an international motorsport event organised by the Rwanda Automobile Club.

Held in the capital city, Kigali, it serves as a key round in both the African Rally Championship and the Rwandan National Rally Championship.
