Muthomi caused an upset at the 2025 Muthaiga Ladies Open on Sunday, overcoming over 100 leading female golfers to win.

Twelve-year-old Kanana Muthomi upset a field of over 100 leading female golfers to win the 2025 Muthaiga Ladies Open on Sunday.

The impressive victory at the par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club, a Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) Golfer of The Year event, saw the junior golfer card a remarkable two-under-par 69.

Muthomi, who represents Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club and is currently ranked 619th in the World Amateur Rankings shed light on her underdog triumph.

“The course was in great condition today. But I really want to thank my playing partners. They gave me a good challenge, they were playing well, and I think that's what helped me achieve such a good score," she said as quoted by Nation Sports.

This isn't Muthomi's first impressive performance. Last year, she nearly won the 54-hole Ladies Stroke Play Championship, leading for two rounds before ultimately finishing second to Kiambu’s Joyce Wanjiru.

The Junior Golfer delivered a standout performance at the NCBA Inter-Schools tournament in March.

“I’d like to thank my parents for their support and for bringing me to play in this well-organized event,” added Muthomi, who finished four strokes ahead of second-place finishers Mercy Nyanchama of Njoro Country Club and Joyce Wanjiru of Kiambu.

Christine Nganga won the 'B' division title with an 86 gross as Jackline Sirai took the 'A' division title with a net score of 66, three strokes ahead of Nyambura Gatimu.
