Liverpool fans were left shocked as 53-year-old man drive a car into crowd during the Premier League champions' trophy parade on Monday.

A man has been arrested after a car plowed into a crowd of Liverpool fans during the team's Premier League title parade.

Emergency services rushed to Water Street within minutes, with dramatic images emerging showing police cordons and a heavy presence of officers, ambulances, and a fire engine at the scene.

Thousands were lining the streets for the celebrations when the car drove into the crowd, hitting several pedestrians.

Restaurant Turned Makeshift Emergency Room

A restaurant on the street where the car hit the Liverpool fans was reportedly turned into a makeshift emergency room.

Liverpool Echo journalist Paddy Edrich posted on X: "I'm on Dale Street, at the junction of Water Street, where police are dealing with a serious incident following the Liverpool parade. Several people are receiving medical treatment inside the Riva restaurant, which has been turned into a makeshift emergency room."

Witness Shaken

Chelsea Yuen, who was at the parade with her friend and young daughter, told Sky News she was in shock. "We're really shaken up. My friend's daughter was crying as we walked past people lying on the ground."

"We just had to keep walking and get out of the area. We didn't know what else was going to happen. There were strollers in the street. I don't know who's been hurt or if there are any fatalities. But there were kids everywhere. It was a family celebration, it's just shocking what happened."

Liverpool FC released its first statement following the incident, saying it is in contact with the police. "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police in relation to an incident on Water Street which occurred towards the end of the parade earlier this evening. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities dealing with the incident."

BBC Reporter's Terrifying Account

BBC reporter Matt Cole said a dark blue car "came through the crowd and wasn't stopping" and that he and his family "missed it by inches." "There were screams in front of us and suddenly this dark blue car came through the crowd, it just wasn't stopping. I managed to grab my daughter who was with me and jump out of the way, the car missed me and my family by inches."

Prime Minister's Statement

Prime Minister Keir Starmer posted on X: "The scenes in Liverpool are appalling - my thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident."

53-Year-Old Man Arrested

Merseyside Police confirmed the arrest of a man, a 53-year-old British national. "We can confirm that the arrested man is a 53-year-old white British male from the Liverpool area. Extensive enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances of what led to the collision."
