Charles Odera’s men lived up to their name and they can now look forward to another season in the top flight
Wazito FC have secured their Premier League status following a 3-0 thrashing of Migori Youth in the promotion-relegation playoff at Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday.
Robert Onyango played a starring role as he scored one goal and set up another for the home side in the second leg of the tie after a goalless first leg in Migori last weekend.
Wary of their rivals scoring an away goal that would complicate matters for them, Wazito rarely gave their opponents at sniff at their goal while they laid siege at the opposite end.
The home side thought they had broken the deadlock after 26 minutes when Kevin Wesonga headed in from a corner but the goal was ruled out after Collins Neto was adjudged to have brought down Fredrick Onyango in the box.
Kevin Onyango then almost scored for Wazito three minutes later with a speculative shot that was saved by Migori goalkeeper Victor Kamungo.
Charles Odero’s men kept asking the questions and got their answer in first half stoppage time when Robert Onyango floated in a freekick that Kamungo failed to deal with, despite coming off his line, and the loose ball fell in the box where an unmarked Stephen Bwire tapped in for 1-0 at the break.
Wazito did not take long to add onto their advantage as just two minutes after restart, Robert Onyango brought in a left-footed freekick that easily floated into the goal. Migori goalkeeper Kamungo underestimated the strike only to see it roll into the net.
Veteran Neto then showed great strength by shrugging off Clintone Onyango before firing an unstoppable shot to make it 3-0 for Wazito in the 54th minute.
Migori could not mount any comeback as Wazito lived up to their name and they can look forward to another season in the Premier League while Migori will have to try again from the second-tier National Super League next season.
Wazito will now open their 2023-24 Premier League campaign away to Nairobi City Stars on August 27.
