Victor Wanyama has shared his views on the biggest football tournaments, offering his picks for AFCON 2025 and other major global competitions.

Harambee Stars legend Victor Wanyama has named his top picks for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, as he also singled out who he thinks will win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the English Premier League and Champions League.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is currently in full swing across Morocco after kicking off this past Sunday. Host nation Morocco started their campaign on a high note with a convincing 2-0 win over Comoros in the tournament opener.

Monday’s action saw Egypt and South Africa both secure narrow 2-1 victories against Zimbabwe and Angola, respectively. Meanwhile, the competitive clash between Mali and Zambia ended in a hard-fought 1-1 stalemate.

Tuesday, December 23, features a busy schedule with four crucial group stage matches set to take place. The earlier fixtures include DR Congo taking on Benin and a highly anticipated meeting between Nigeria and Tanzania. To close out the day, former champions Senegal face Botswana while Tunisia goes head-to-head with Uganda.

Victor Wanyama admitted that Morocco are on a roll right now and are the favourites to win, but threw his full support behind Nigeria.

“I think Morocco are at the edge, but I'll go with Nigeria,” Victor Wanyama told B/R Football in an interview.

Nigeria have solidified their status as a continental football giant by claiming the Africa Cup of Nations title three times, with historic victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013.

Boasting one of the most consistent records in the competition's history, the Super Eagles have reached the podium in 13 of their last 15 appearances and remain perennial favorites for the crown.

Victor Wanyama: Harambee Stars Legend Backs Portugal to Win 2026 FIFA World Cup

Speaking about his prediction for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder believes it is now time for Cristiano Ronaldo to walk away with the trophy.

He pointed out that Portugal have been building a solid team and will be the team to watch in the 2026 edition of the global event, owing to the fact that it will also be Cristiano Ronaldo’s final one.

“I'll go with Portugal. I think they have got a good team and they always surprise people. His (Cristiano Ronaldo) last World Cup. Yeah. He'll give it his all,” Victor Wanyama shared.

“And also the group of Portugal players right now, they have done well as a team. They'll be a tough team to beat.”

Victor Wanyama further noted that Arsenal are looking good so far, and are currently on course to lift the Premier League trophy, but he believes Tottenham Hotspur might surprise the world, too.

At the moment, Arsenal lead the Premier League table with 39 points. In contrast, Tottenham Hotspur currently find themselves in 14th position with 22 points after a challenging start to their campaign.

“Arsenal is up there, but I'm rooting for Spurs. But Spurs, they had a chance to beat Arsenal, and it didn't go very well. So I don't know if the Spurs are going to win anymore. No problem. We have the second leg, and we'll see,” Victor Wanyama shared.

“Madrid. They look like they're slipping a little bit. They look like they're not the same. I think right now, in the group stage, they're always like that. But after hours, their momentum changes,” he said, answering the question of who will win the Champions League.
