Victor Wanyama’s future at Dunfermline Athletic has become clearer after the Scottish second division club made an update over their plans for him.

Scottish second tier club Dunfermline Athletic has given an update over the future of former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama following the conclusion of the season.

Wanyama made a shock move to the club in March, reuniting with his former Celtic coach Neil Lennon, having signed a short-term deal until the end of the season.

His main task was to use his experience and help steer the club to safety as they were second from bottom and in danger of relegation to the third tier when he joined.

Now, with the season over and Dunfermline Athletic having done just enough to survive the axe with a seventh-place finish in the 10-team league, the club are looking to make a strong push next season and intend to make a major squad overhaul.

Already, eight-out-of-contract players are being allowed to leave but Wanyama is not one of them, pointing to an extended stay in Scotland for the Kenyan midfielder.

“Dialogue remains ongoing with Chris Hamilton, Josh Cooper, Tashan Oakley-Boothe, Jeremiah Chilokoa Mullen and Victor Wanyama,” the club said through a squad update on their website regarding the future of Wanyama and some of his team-mates.

It appears like Dunfermline Athletic have decided to retain Wanyama for next season given talks are underway regarding fresh terms which will end hopes of the midfielder playing somewhere else.

Wanyama has made four appearances for the club this season, starting one, and it appears Lennon has seen enough to be convinced that he can make an impact.
