CF Montreal supporters have hit out at the team’s coach Laurent Courtois over his treatment of Kenyan international Victor Wanyama.

Supporters of MLS side CF Montreal have voiced their dissatisfaction at the treatment of former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama who is hardly getting selected for matches.

Wanyama endured frustrating final months of last season when he became a bench warmer and eventually dropped from the squad by former Montreal coach Hernan Losada and had received assurances by new tactician Laurent Courtois that things would be different this campaign.

However, the Kenyan international is still warming the bench, having not started any of Montreal’s five matches of the new campaign.

Wanyama was on the bench but was not involved in the season opener against Orland City before back-to-back appearances as a second half substitute when his side beat FC Dallas and Inter Miami but was an unused substitute in Montreal’s last two defeats to Chicago Fire and DC United.

Ahead of the club’s match away to Seattle Sounders on Sunday 7, April, Montreal fans have flooded the club’s social media accounts to demand the inclusion of Wanyama, who some feel is being disrespected by coach Courtois.

“Why does Wanyama not play? Why do the players not go forward when losing with a minute to go? Why does [Bryce] Duke still play? He's not good. Horrible game from Courtois,” asked a frustrated fan.

“Wanyama deserves a little more respect,” said another one, while some want the ex-Kenyan international to start on Sunday.

“We want Wanyama guys,” he posted. “Should give Victor a start.”

Wanyama has fallen down the pecking order at Montreal with Courtois preferring a two-man midfield of Canadians Samuel Piette and Mathieu Choiniere while youngsters Nathan Saliba and Bryce Duke are also ahead of him.

However, the supports feel the current combination is not working given their recent spate of poor results and want a change.

“When Saliba and Bryce Duke play MTL [Montreal] is really inferior, how bad are they? And what about the players who walk without attacking in the final seconds?” posed another irate supporter.

“Ruan [Gregorio Teixeira] #22 and [Josef] Martinez #17 are the worst players I've seen on this team: tactically, positioning, and finishing. They no longer deserve their place in the starting XI. It's time for [the] coach to wake up to restart this team.”

Wanyama was among the squad that flew out to Seattle on Thursday morning but it remains to be seen if Courtois will give him an opportunity on Sunday.
