Updated progress on the installation of floodlights at Nyayo National Stadium ahead of Benni McCarthy's first home game in charge of Harambee Stars against Gabon.
Remarkable progress has been made in the renovation of Nyayo National Stadium as Kenya's Harambee Stars prepare to face Gabon in their fifth 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on March 24, 2025.
This fixture marks a significant moment for Kenyan football, being the Stars' first home game in nearly a year and a crucial test event for the CAF Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), set to begin on August 2, 2025.
The most notable advancement is the near-completion of floodlight installations. Two poles have already been fully mounted on the East stand, while work with the poles on the West stand is well underway.

Mo Salah: 3 reasons why losing the Egyptian king will hurt Liverpool & the Premier League
Mo Salah is set to walk out of Liverpool for free at the end of the season after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract. Here is why he will be a big loss for Liverpool and the Premier League.
Adjacent to the VIP walkway, a flower bed adds beauty to the surroundings. On the field, the pitch is nearly ready for use, with only minor touch-ups near the touchline remaining. Movable goalposts and electronic advertising boards are ready to be installed ahead of CHAN.
These renovations follow the stadium's inability to host the 96th Mashemeji Derby due to ongoing upgrades.
However, with the current progress, Nyayo Stadium is on track to meet international standards and provide a fitting stage for Kenya's World Cup qualifying campaign and upcoming continental tournaments.
