The Arsenal forward rescued a draw for Mikel Arteta’s men on Tuesday night, thus equalling Champions League feats of Alessandro Del Piero, Frederic Kanoute and Oscar.

Leandro Trossard scored Arsenal’s leveller against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night at the Emirates Stadium, meaning the Gunners avoided defeat in their Champions League quarterfinal first leg.

Arsenal 2-2 Bayern

Bukayo Saka had put Mikel Arteta’s men 1-0 up after 12 minutes, and Ben White nearly doubled the home side’s advantage only to be thwarted by Manuel Neuer

Gunners old boy Serge Gnabry punished Arsenal mistakes to level six minutes after Saka’s opener, with Harry Kane notching his 15th goal against the North London side from 12 yards after Leroy Sane drew a foul from William Saliba

Arteta’s attacking substitutions paid dividends as Gabriel Jesus expertly set up Trossard to level with 15 minutes remaining to score his sixth goal as a substitute in all competitions this season, more than any player in the big-five European leagues.

What Champions League record did Trossard match against Bayern?

The Belgian netted for the fourth consecutive home match on his Champions League debut campaign, scoring against PSV, Sevilla, Porto, and Tuesday night.

Trossard equalled Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, Sevilla icon Frederic Kanoute and ex-Chelsea attacking midfielder Oscar, who all found the net in their first four home appearances in Europe’s premier club competition.

Del Piero’s goals came against Steaua Bucharest, Rangers, Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in the 1995-96 season.

Kanoute, despite playing just 15 Champions League matches, found the net in his first four home matches against Slavia Prague, Steaua, Arsenal and Fenerbahce, and Oscar notably netted a brace on his Champions League bow against Juventus in 2012-13 before notching goals against Shakhtar Donetsk, Nordsjaelland before the Blues exited the competition in the group stage.

The Brazilian made it four home games in which he netted in the opening fixture at Stamford Bridge the following season, scoring in the West London club's 2-1 loss to Basel

What comes next for Trossard and Arsenal?

While Arsenal were favoured to dispatch Bayern comfortably, Tuesday’s game demonstrated that Thomas Tuchel’s side are a formidable opposition despite their Bundesliga struggles. Both sides tussle in the reverse fixture next Wednesday, with the Gunners keen to end their Bayern hoodoo.

The Gunners return to Premier League action this weekend when they welcome Aston Villa to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday seeking retribution for the 1-0 loss suffered in the reverse fixture at Villa Park in December 2023.

A win for Arsenal will keep them atop the league standings regardless of Liverpool’s result against Crystal Palace at Anfield or Manchester City’s against Luton at the Etihad Stadium.
