FKFPL Tomas Trucha details AFC Leopards problems after torrid season start

Ingwe face challenges in their season, with only one win in ten, despite the potential and a determined head coach.

AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha has come forward with a candid exposition of the issues causing the team's stumbling performance this season.

Despite a roster brimming with potential, Ingwe's lone victory in ten matches casts a shadow over their campaign, illuminating a troubling lack of goal-scoring opportunities.

The recent 3-2 defeat at the hands of Nairobi City Stars was particularly disheartening, coming on the heels of two undefeated matches and dashing hopes of a swift recovery from their relegation zone doldrums.

This slump was interrupted only by a narrow win over Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium, followed by a goalless stalemate against Kariobangi Sharks, results that have failed to ignite the spark expected at the club.

In a reflective tone, Trucha, who mid-October returned to Leopards for a second stint after coaching the club in 2020 in November when he resigned in unclear circumstances, pinpointed the heart of their struggles.

"Scoring goals remains a challenge for us; in the match (against City Stars), we managed only one goal from a penalty and another from a free-kick. We're not finding the net from open play.

"Since the first game I observed, it's clear we are not creating enough opportunities. This was evident in our games against Bandari, Nzoia, and even Kariobangi Sharks – we just aren't posing a serious threat. We lack the composure and the drive necessary to convert our efforts into goals," he said.

Yet, Trucha remains unfazed and committed to his vision for the Ingwe's quest for their elusive 13th league title.

"Nevertheless, it's my responsibility to work with the players at my disposal, and I can see they are making progress. If we look at the (City Stars) game, despite the outcome, I witnessed many positive aspects – we did create chances within the penalty area.

"We are committed to continuing with our project, learning from each experience, and approaching the next game with confidence and our heads held high," he added.

Since taking the helm for four games, the Czech's record—consisting of one win, one draw, and two losses—mirrors the larger pattern of underperformance that has plagued the Leopards.

As AFC Leopards prepare to face the in-form Posta Rangers, a team exhibiting the kind of solidity and sharpness in front of goal that Ingwe desperately needs, the upcoming match is more than just a game; it is an opportunity to turn the tide.

Rangers who arecurrently leading the table and edging out AFC Leopards' traditional rivals Gor Mahia represent a formidable challenge.
