Aguero opens up on not playing with Messi at Barca

The final months of the striker’s career are explored in the documentary, including how Messi called him to move to Barca and his eventual retirement.

“It was going to be spectacular: a chance to make it to the [2022] World Cup in the best shape, and together,” stated Aguero.

“The idea was to play with Leo and go the World Cup together. But then that thing happened with him. And then the arrhythmia.”

Aguero’s Barcelona career was brief as chest discomfort diagnosed as cardiac arrhythmia forced him to call time on his illustrious career in December 2021.

The upshot of his forced retirement meant that the former Man City forward could not play in Qatar, where Messi and co. finally lifted the World Cup after several disappointments.

“Although I didn’t play, I feel like a champion,” continued Aguero. “My last goal was against Real Madrid, which is not bad.

“And you know what I take with me from Barcelona? How passionate people were about the club. How good they were to me, how they treated me. It was like I was Messi.”

The documentary also highlights Aguero's complex relationship with his father, his time at Man City, struggling with the English language, and so on.
