Daniel Ogunmodede and Remo Stars were thrashed by Sporting Lagos in the NPFL.

Remo Stars manager Daniel Ogunmodede was left apologising to the club's fans after their remarkable 14-game unbeaten run in the Southwest derby came crashing down in humiliating fashion against Sporting Lagos.

Pulse Sports Nigeria watched as the Tech Boys put on a show to dismantle their Ikenne side following a comprehensive 4-1 by the NPFL newbies on Sunday.

Apologetic Remo boss reacts to Sporting loss

Following the shocking heavy defeat, Remo Stars manager Ogunmodede, who has also been linked with the vacant Super Eagles job, admitted that it was "unacceptable" by his side's high standards.

"Bad day in the office,” Ogunmodede posted on his official social media account after the encounter.

“To our passionate Remo Stars fans globally, I tender my apology for letting you down,” he added.

“Today's result is unacceptable by our standards. Thank you for standing with us always."

It was Remo's first derby loss since a 1-0 reverse against the now-defunct MFM back in 2019 as their dominance over local rivals was emphatically ended by Sporting's ruthless display.

Four different scorers netted for the hosts, with one of the goals a contender for the NPFL's strike of the season - Philip Kehinde's outrageous bicycle kick helping Sporting into an unassailable 3-1 lead.

Former Remo striker Junior Lokosa had opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Paschal Durugbor and Isaac Annor compounded the visitors' misery with further goals after the break.

Despite Lokosa administering the first blow against his former employers, it was teenage sensation Kehinde who truly stuck the dagger into Remo's heart with his moment of magic.

Ogunmodede could only look on helplessly as the humiliation unfolded, his players powerless to stop the rampant hosts who look set to be this season's debut entertainers.

While the Remo manager was understandably contrite, taking full responsibility for the shambolic showing, his opposite number Paul Offor was obviously thrilled to see his bold attacking philosophy pay such rich dividends.

For Sporting, it was a statement victory announcing their arrival as the NPFL's newest force to be reckoned with. Remo, on the other hand, have been firmly knocked off their perch as Lagos' preeminent side on a dark day they'll want to quickly forget.
