Lazio striker Ciro Immobile was involved in an accident and is currently receiving treatment.

Lazio and Italy star Ciro Immobile is currently hospitalised after being involved in a car accident with a tram in Rome.

The four-time Capocannoniere winner was on target in Lazio's win over Spezia last Friday, but is now in doubt for their match against Torino next weekend, as he is currently receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the accident.

What happened

The 33-year-old striker's car was hit by a tram that, according to him, failed to obey traffic regulations.

Immobile's automobile was crashed by the bigger vehicle; however, he was filmed commenting on the accident immediately after.

Although he is reported to be "fine," he is currently being treated for back and rib injuries sustained as a result of the impact.

A statement by Lazio revealed that he had a "sprain trauma of the spine" and a "compound fracture" of his right rib, but he is believed to be stable, as the same statement reported his current conditions to be "good."

Club statement: "The medical staff of SS Lazio announces that today, following a road accident, the footballer Ciro Immobile suffered a distortion trauma of the spine and a compound fracture of the right XI rib."

"The conditions are currently good. The footballer remains under observation in the emergency medicine department directed by Professor Francesco Franceschi of the Agostino Gemelli IRCCS University Hospital in Rome."

Lazio to block Arsenal’s attempt for their star

Meanwhile, Lazio will make a last-ditch attempt to renew Sergej Milinkovic-Savic's contract to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer at the end of next season, according to reports.

The 28-year-old is one of the top performers in Serie A since signing from Genk in the summer of 2015, making him a subject of interest for many European clubs.

However, Lazio have held off suitors for their gem, but with his contract running down and his current stance to not renew, they might be forced into selling him next summer or avoid losing him on a free transfer after, and Arsenal are one of the clubs said to be lurking and readying to pounce.
