Messi is has been at loggerheads with the club over a recent trip – which was not sanctioned - to Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season, and the French club is not willing to extend his contract.

The World Cup-winning captain joined the Ligue 1 side on a two-year deal in 2021 from Barcelona. He has gone on to feature in 71 games for PSG and has managed to score 31 goals, register 34 assists, and lift the title in 2022.

The dynamics for a new contract have changed in the recent past, even though things were looking positive during the World Cup period. His current deal ends this summer.

Earlier this week, the forward was suspended by PSG for going on a personal promotion trip to Saudi Arabia on Sunday. He had postponed the scheduled commercial trip twice.

However, the Argentine was not given permission and was suspended for two games and fined two weeks' wages after a meeting between the club's top management.

The suspension means the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner will miss Ligue 1 matches against Troyes and Ajaccio, but is set to return for the game against Auxerre later on May 21.

Meanwhile, PSG are understood to consider their move to sign Messi a success on and off the pitch, but a section of the fans have never been convinced by the Barcelona legend.

The fans turned on Argentina's great when they were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich.

When he leaves the French heavyweights, one of the possible destinations is Camp Nou, although Barcelona’s financial situation might not allow a grand return. The Major Soccer League and Saudi Arabia – a country he serves as a tourism ambassador - also remain possible destinations for the 35-year-old.
