Samuel Kapen's stellar performance continues to propel Nairobi City Stars to new heights in the FKF Premier League.

Nairobi City Stars forward Samuel Kapen emerged as a pivotal figure in the team's remarkable performance in the first leg of the 2023-2024 FKF Premier League.

After 17 rounds, Simba wa Nairobi amassed 30 points, a striking improvement of 18 points from the same stage last season, positioning themselves as formidable contenders in the league.

Kapen, who transitioned to the top-flight team from National Super League (NSL) side Kibera Black Stars two seasons ago, acknowledged the challenges faced and the resilience it took to reach this point.

"It wasn’t an easy first leg, but we all made it possible. The league is tough, but as a team, we reached our target at the end of the first part. God willing, we hope to achieve the set targets for the second leg too,”  he reflected.

Matching his previous season's tally of four goals at the same stage, he has significantly boosted his assists and key passes, doubling the figures to four each, up from two.

Kapen's individual brilliance did not go unnoticed, earning three Man of the Match awards after stellar performances against Posta Rangers, Ulinzi Stars, and FC Talanta, and securing his spot in the team of the week thrice.

“I am giving my best to Simba wa Nairobi and hope to help the team win more games and get more points,” Kapen stated, underlining his dedication and aspirations for City Stars.

His unwavering presence on the field is evident as he's clocked 1,332 minutes, featuring in every game this season.

City Stars, currently second in the league standings with 33 points from 19 matches, are ten points shy of the top spot, held by the undefeated Gor Mahia.

The league, traditionally dominated by Gor and Tusker, is witnessing a shake-up, with City Stars emerging as serious challengers, disrupting the decade-long status quo.

The former Posta Rangers striker, who netted eight goals in his first full top-flight season, is gearing up for the upcoming clash against Shabana on February 4.

This crucial match offers City Stars a golden opportunity to close the gap with league leaders Gor Mahia and cement their position as serious title contenders.
