Kenyan forward Ryan Ogam has explained the key challenge he is facing in Austria since joining Wolfsberger AC in September.

Harambee Stars forward Ryan Ogam has had a slow start to life in Austria since joining top flight side Wolfsberger AC.

Ogam joined the Austrian Bundesliga club in September and so far, he has featured in just three matches, starting two of them.

The former Tusker FC striker has missed their last four league games, sitting on the bench in two of them while he did not make the matchday squad in the others, before he linked up with the Harambee Stars before this month’s friendly matches.

Ogam has spoken about some of the key challenges that might be behind his limited appearances, revealing how he is struggling to adapt to the freezing conditions in Europe.

“Life has been great. I’m still trying to adapt to the weather because it’s really cold, but everything is okay and getting better by the day,” Ogam said as per Pepeta.

Austria has already welcomed winter with temperatures in November dropping from around 10°C (50°F) to 3°C (38°F) but it becomes freezing and snowy towards December with temperatures as low as -4°C, something the Kenyan star is having to cope with.

It perhaps explains why he has been used sparingly by his new club as they seek to allow him adaptation time although the striker is enjoying the learning process and is taken aback by the level of football in Austria.

“What stands out is the structure and professionalism. They have really put their systems together compared to Kenya. We are trying, but the level there is much higher, and that also comes with discipline,” he added.

Ogam joined Wolfsberger after a dream debut season at Tusker when he scored 15 goals in 17 games last season before weighing in with two in five at the 2024 African Nations Championships.

He will be playing under a new coach when he returns from international duty after Wolfsberger unveiled Ismail Atalan on Wednesday to replace Dietmar Kuhbauer.
