Veteran coach Pitso Mosimane has admitted that a return to his former stomping ground Mamelodi Sundowns can still happen even though his main target is the Bafana Bafana job.

Pitso Mosimane has not ruled out a return to his former club Mamelodi Sundowns amid speculation linking him to the job.

Since January, Mosimane has been reported to be in talks with Sundowns over returning to the club, six years since leaving after an eight-year trophy laded spell between 2012 and 2020.

As Sundowns have struggled for consistency and with their style of play not good on the eye, current coach Miguel Cardoso has come under increasing pressure with the shadow of Mosimane looming over after the report about his potential return.

The veteran coach has now broken his silence over the rumours and he admits he can never shy away from a return, something that could excite Mamelodi Sundowns fans, who have been calling for his comeback.

Mosimane Open to Sundowns Return

"Ja, I've seen on social media (Sundowns fans calling for his return), I know that,” Mosimane said on the SMWX Podcast.

“Look, it's possible, anything is possible, never say never in life. You know I was laughing when I saw Mike Tyson going back to boxing and I said, 'Ah it's possible hey!'.

"(Floyd) Mayweather came back, George Foreman came back right? So I don't know. But yes, it is possible, why not? It's possible, it's just that sometimes you've got to…I need also to stay humble and contribute, because you know when you go to four (CAF) Champions League finals and you win three.

What is Veteran Coach’s Dream Job

"And you go to the FIFA Club World Cup and bring bronze medals, third best team in the world two times right? Playing against Bayern and all those (big clubs), the FIFA Club World Cup is the biggest. Also you need to shift, come down and be humble, it's home now," he added.

Mosimane’s words will add fuel to the fire and came just hours before Cardoso’s team secured a massive win over title rivals Orlando Pirates on Wednesday when Sundowns won 2-1 to close the gap to just three points and still with a game in hand.

Cardoso’s deal runs until the end of the season and it remains to be seen if he will earn an extension or whether Mosimane would make a return even though he has made it clear that his dream job now is the South Africa national team, Bafana Bafana.
