Lyles described unrelenting ambition as a quality that has fueled his rise in the sport, even as it has made him a divisive figure among track and field fans.

“I know a lot of people look at some of the things that I do and some things I say, and they say I'm too ambitious. And you know, saying some of this stuff is kind of wild, you know, you haven't even done it yet," said Lyles.

The Olympic champion proceeded to defend this mentality terming it as 'superpower' despite the criticism.

Noah Lyles relentless ambition

Olympic champion Noah Lyles has previously expressed his desire to break Usain Bolt's record.

Lyles’ bold declarations and confident persona have often been met with mixed reactions as admirers celebrate his swagger, while critics see it as arrogance.

But after his stellar performances at the 2024 Paris Olympics, even skeptics were forced to take notice.

Dubbed the new sprint king, Lyles captured the men’s 100m title in Paris, silencing many of his doubters on the sport’s biggest stage.

Though he fell short of gold in his favorite event, the 200m, he still secured a bronze medal, reinforcing his elite status in global sprinting.

Since then, Lyles has maintained his momentum. He kicked off his 2025 season with a dominant win at the New Balance Grand Prix in February.

Through it all, Lyles remains unapologetically himself, driven, vocal, and ambitious.

With the season heating up and global titles on the line, Noah Lyles’ 'superpower' may very well be the edge that keeps him ahead of the pack when he lines up against the like of Kishane Thompson, Letsile Tebogo and Kenny Bednarek.
