The patron of Shabana FC has publicly distanced himself from the recent unveiling of the club's new sponsor.

Shabana FC patron Sam Nyamweya has publicly distanced himself from the recently announced sponsorship deal with gaming firm Bangbet.

The statement came as a shock to many, as the club was gearing up to unveil Bangbet as their official sponsor in a ceremony scheduled for Sunday.

Nyamweya, who is the former Football Kenya Federation President, expressed his reservations about the sponsorship.

"I disassociate myself from the said sponsorship signing ceremony after learning of it through the media,” he said in a statement.

"Sponsorships are an essential part of the progress of the team and cannot be done in a hurry and without proper consultation and due diligence done on the said sponsor(s).”

He further disclosed that he had been in communication with some of the club's elected officials, who expressed their lack of awareness regarding the sponsorship deal signing.

"As a club, we will interrogate all possible sponsors and come up with the most credible, valuable, and reliable sponsor for the team," Nyamweya declared.

While Nyamweya's concerns about the sudden sponsorship announcement are apparent, it's worth noting that the club is set to reveal the new sponsor, Bangbet, on Sunday.

This sponsorship deal, valued at Ksh20 million for a single season, was initially disclosed by Kisii Governor Simba Arati back in June.

The controversy surrounding the sponsorship overshadowed the recent news of Shabana's rumored engagements with several players.

The Glamour Boys have reportedly been in discussions with defenders Hillary Ndombi, Price Ayieko, Michael Wandera, and Rodgers Aloro, goalkeeper Michael Wanyika, midfielder Mark Okola, and striker Johanna Mwita.

Shabana will return to the top flight after 17 years in the cold following their success in winning the National Super League (NSL) at the end of last season.
