Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti has detailed what has led to his team's great run of form that sees them among title challengers after last season's struggles

Nairobi City Stars head coach Nicholas Muyoti has explained how his side have defied all the odds to get themselves into a title challenge, contrasting to last season when they survived relegation by the skin of their teeth.

City Stars beat fellow surprise challengers Posta Rangers on Sunday to keep tabs on leaders Gor Mahia, and they now sit on 33 points behind the record league champions.

Speaking to Pulse Sports, Muyoti explained how his charges have managed to carve a brilliant season for themselves thus far.

“I want to thank God and then the boys for a work well done so far,” Muyoti said.

“From the start, we did not set off well but I am glad and happy with the progress as the matches went on.

“As the matches went on, you could see the improvement from the players, the young players, the experienced ones coming in to guide the youngsters, I think it has been a team effort.

“If you go down to our technical bench, the management, I mean, everyone has been supportive and I am very happy with the run so far.”

Muyoti believes that every game is getting tougher and his charges will continue taking it one game at a time in order to achieve their targets.

“It is not an easy league and every match we are facing, it is getting tougher," he added.

“We expect a lot in the second leg. We are a team to beat right now, We just have to up our game and make sure that we keep doing what we were doing in the first leg.”

Meanwhile, Muyoti remained evasive when asked if they stand a genuine chance of winning the title and giving Gor Mahia a run for their money.

“I’m not thinking about Gor Mahia, I am just thinking about our next match. We have a job to do and for now we are just thinking about our next opponent," said Muyoti.

“When we come to face Gor Mahia, that’s when we will think about them but for now, we are thinking and planning about AFC Leopards.” Muyoti said.
