The Migori-based club remain in third spot with 50 points after 27 games.

Migori Youth FC claimed a 2-0 win over Coastal Heroes in an entertaining National Super League (NSL) match at Migori Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The victory fastened Migori's grip on the third spot which if maintained will take them to the Promotion/Relegation Playoff spot against the 16th place team in the Premier League.

Coastal Heroes goalkeeper Said Dhadho made a great save off Isaac Otieno's shot early on in the match and he continued to be well-positioned throughout the match.

Heroes came close when Rama Salim’s shot missed the target in the 18th minute, hitting the side net on the left.

In the 25th minute, Lucky Kaingu wasted a great opportunity of giving Heroes the lead as he was all alone inside the box, but shot wide.

That changed at the half an hour mark when Fredrick Simiyu played in Kevin Hagai who took one touch inside and riffled the ball into the net to make it 1-0 for Migori.

Migori Youth custodian Victor Kamungo made a great save just towards the end of the first half, tipping away a cross that was delivered by Ghalib Ali.

In the second half, Kamungo continued with his form as he made a good save once again denying Coastal Heroes an equalizer.

In the 60th minute, Migori Youth pushed forward in attack, but Kevin Washa made a clearance with a header.

Two minutes later, Mwema Mwanza came close to finding the back of a net for Heroes with a volley inside the box, but his shot missed the target.

The poor defensive play for the visitors continued as Migori Youth were awarded a penalty in the 65th minute, which was easily converted by Kevin Haggai to make it 2-0.

Substitute Samson also pushed for a consolation, pulling a long-range shot, but Kamungo was well positioned.

Those proved to be the closest attempt Heroes would come to a goal, with Migori able to see out the match and secure an important victory which got them back on track after losing 1-0 to Murang'a Seal last time out.
