Nail-biting encounter ends in frustration as both sides fail to break the deadlock in thrilling first leg clash.

In front of thousands of fans at Migori Stadium, the first leg of the promotion/relegation playoff between Migori Youth and Wazito FC ended as a dull affair on Saturday, with neither side able to find the back of the net.

The first chance of the match fell to Wazito in the tenth minute as a quick counter-attack left them with a clear sight of goal, but Victor Kamungo pulled off a good save before a goal-line clearance denied Collins Neto.

Both teams continued to probe, and Migori, too, looked dangerous on the break. The hosts conjured their best chance of the half with 29th minutes on the clock when Lucky Musyoki's knockdown fell favorably at Kevin Haggai's feet but his deflected effort flashed over Tom Muthomi's crossbar.

Wazito midfielder Kevin Wesonga then hit the crossbar two minutes before Stephen Bwire's left-footed cross was met powerfully by Maxwell Odada but again goalkeeper Victor Kamungo made a timely rescue.

The visitors dominated most of the action following the break, but Migori created the best chance in the 68th minute. A superb interplay between Collins Akite and Fredrick Onyango allowed the latter a clear sight of goal, but Tom Muthomi pulled off another superb save.

In the 75th minute, substitute Erick Juma should really have scored for the visitors following a goalmouth scramble, but he struck the crossbar from close range.

The game fell into a bit of a lull after that as both teams squandered possession in the final third and chances on goal were at a minimum.

Collins Neto almost stole the win in the dying minutes of the match with a thunderous long-range effort, but the Migori keeper pulled off a wonderful save to see the game end all square.

The second leg of the match between the two sides will be played at the Muhoroni Stadium on Saturday 22 July.

Should there be a tie on aggregate after the end of regular time in the second match, the match shall proceed to penalties. The winner of the subsequent shootout shall secure a place in next season's top tier.
