Mtahare United has confirmed head coach's departure amidst successful season as they cite mutual decision without specific reasons.

National Super League side Mathare United have announced the departure of head coach Leonard Odipo in a surprising turn of events following their recent 3-0 defeat to MCF FC.

Odipo, who took the helm at the start of the season, has been instrumental in steering the club to second place in the league standings, leaving many to ponder the sudden decision for both parties to part ways.

In a statement released by the club, it was made clear that the decision for Odipo to step aside was mutual, although specific reasons for his departure were not disclosed.

"The club would like to confirm that a mutual decision was reached with Leonard Odipo for him to step aside from his role as head coach," the official announcement stated, signaling an end to what seemed to be a promising tenure for Odipo at the club.

Assistant coach Jeff Maina has been appointed to deputize in the interim, with the club promising further communication regarding the head coaching position in due course.

This move raises questions about the club's direction and stability, especially considering the critical phase of the season they are currently navigating.

Jecton Obure, the CEO of Mathare United, expressed his gratitude towards Odipo for his commitment and contribution to the team.

"While respecting Leonard Odipo’s desire to step aside, our club appreciates his full commitment and effort as our head coach. He is and will always remain a highly respected and admired member/senior coach in the MYSA/MUFC family," Obure remarked, highlighting the positive impact Odipo has had on the club.

Odipo's tenure at Mtahare United was marked by significant progress, with the club currently sitting in second place in the National Super League standings, amassing 46 points after 23 rounds.

Despite trailing leaders Naivas FC by six points, the team remains in a strong position to contest for the top spot, with 15 matches left in the season.

The departure of Odipo, a coach holding the prestigious CAF A license, comes at a crucial time as Mtahare United seeks to secure promotion back to the top tier following their relegation at the end of the previous season.

Tasked with rebuilding a team capable of achieving this goal Odipo's exit casts a shadow over the Slum Boys aspirations for the remainder of the campaign.
