FKFPL Matano reads riot act to stuttering Tusker as title pressure mounts

The Tusker coach was not happy with his side's 'lack of urgency' against Nairobi City Stars and has told them what they must do to retain their title

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has challenged his team to get their act together if they want to retain their FKF Premier League title.

This is after Tusker handed Gor Mahia a major boost in the title fight following a barren draw with Nairobi City Stars on Wednesday afternoon, seeing K'Ogalo open up a four-point lead at the top of the table.

The brewers were on the back foot for large spells of the game, with Stars' pace down the flanks constantly giving them problems. Tusker struggled to create clear goal-scoring opportunities and had to rely on set-pieces which also did not yield much.

Matano was furious at his side’s “lack of urgency and desire” and has now come out and challenged them to up their game or risk losing the title they have won in the last two seasons.

“We have to be clinical in front of goal and we also have to have that desire and fighting spirit. We have to take our chances,” Matano said.

Tusker will play Kakamega Homeboyz at the Ruaraka grounds on Sunday, before playing KariobangI Sharks three days later.

“Those are teams we like to play. Sharks are playing to survive. Homeboyz are a strong team. They are a talented team with a lot of experience, so we are going to prepare well for them," added Matano.

Tusker are second on the league standings on 58 points while leaders Gor Mahia have 62 plus an incredibly superior goal difference (10) on the brewers. K'Ogalo will play Wazito at the Muhoroni Stadium on Sunday.
