The Red Devils have been in discussions over a potential striker signing amid summer reshuffle talks and interest in a possible swap.

Manchester United have held talks with Nicolas Jackson's representative Ali Barat over a potential move to Old Trafford, it has been claimed.

The 24-year-old Chelsea forward has emerged as one of United's prime striker targets this summer, alongside Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.

With Rasmus Højlund still developing and Anthony Martial expected to leave, United are prioritising a new No.9 for the 2025/26 campaign.

Jackson, who scored 13 goals and contributed six assists in 37 appearances last season, has been identified as a player who fits the profile.

"Speculation, with United expressing an interest and opening talks with his agent, according to BBC Sport," as per Football.London.

However, the road to signing Jackson is far from straightforward. Chelsea remain firm in their stance that the Senegal international is not for sale, despite his diminished role in the latter stages of the season.

Following a red card against Flamengo at the Club World Cup, Jackson struggled to regain his place in the side, featuring for just 30 minutes across the Blues’ four knockout games.

Delap, Pedro Take Centre Stage as Jackson Falls Behind

Jackson’s place in the pecking order dropped significantly as new signings Liam Delap and Joao Pedro took on starting roles during Chelsea’s successful Club World Cup campaign.

Delap started against ES Tunis and Benfica, while Pedro was preferred in the semi-final and final, including the 3-0 thrashing of Paris Saint-Germain.

In fact, Jackson was left as an unused substitute in the final and was barely utilised after returning from suspension.

Sources close to the player believe he could be tempted to leave Stamford Bridge if his role is not clarified heading into next season.

Enzo Maresca is planning to build around Delap and Pedro, both of whom impressed as Chelsea ended the season with 14 wins in their final 16 matches.

“Jackson may be tempted to move on if his game time is not guaranteed. Delap and Pedro are expected to have a huge role under Enzo Maresca next season, as the Blues attempt to build on a terrific end to 2024/25.”

Chelsea’s strong finish saw them secure Champions League qualification and lift the Conference League trophy in Wroclaw after beating Real Betis in the final.

However, the Blues are aware that every player has a price — a precedent set by the £52m sale of a previous star to Arsenal. While they value Jackson at £100m, a blockbuster bid from United could force a rethink.

Garnacho Interest Could Spark Swap Talks

Interestingly, Chelsea have long admired Alejandro Garnacho — one of five United players understood to be exploring exits this summer.

The Argentine winger’s desire to assess his options opens the door to a potential player-plus-cash deal, with Jackson heading to Old Trafford and Garnacho going the other way.

"United could therefore delve in a potential player-plus-cash swap involving Garnacho and Jackson, though there is no guarantee that both parties would agree to that."

However, if the opportunity arises, they could pursue Jackson — who remains a high-upside option for a forward line in need of reinvention.

Chelsea are not actively looking to sell, but with United lurking and Jackson’s playing time uncertain, this could become one of the defining transfer sagas of the summer.
