Kobbie Mainoo’s brother has expressed his sadness at the treatment of the Manchester United youngster, sending coach Ruben Amorim a clear message.
Jordan Mainoo-Hames, brother of Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and a former Love Island star, made a public statement during the club's 4-4 draw with Bournemouth by wearing a T-shirt that read "Free Kobbie Mainoo."
The protest highlights growing frustration over the young midfielder's limited opportunities this season under manager Ruben Amorim. Mainoo has yet to start a Premier League match and has accumulated only 212 minutes of playing time, often being used as a late substitute, as was the case against Bournemouth.
Amorim's management of the promising academy graduate has drawn criticism from club legends Rio Ferdinand, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt, who have all suggested Mainoo may need to leave United on loan to advance his career. The 20-year-old is expected to seek another temporary move when the January transfer window opens, after a loan request was denied last summer.

Ruben Amorim Questions Man United Academy Quality as He Defends Kobbie Mainoo Omission
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has aimed a dig at the club’s academy products amid criticism over his handling of youngster Kobbie Mainoo.
Amorim Maintains Hardline Stance
The United manager, however, remains defiant, insisting that Mainoo has not fully seized the chances he has been given. Amorim also offered a stark assessment of other academy prospects like Toby Collyer, Chido Obi, and Harry Amass, indicating he will not be influenced by the club's long-standing tradition of promoting youth players.
Addressing the criticism from former players, Amorim acknowledged the club's current struggles.
"Sometimes they don't have all the information, and they see Manchester United with the standards that they lived here, always winning. So it's hard for them to see their club in this situation," Amorim stated before the Bournemouth match. "I take that naturally. It's a fact that as a manager of Manchester United, I think we are underachieving."
The Portuguese coach accepted personal responsibility for the team's performance, adding: "The problem is that me, as a manager, I'm not doing good enough and I can accept that. Not winning is the issue. If I'm winning, I can go to the games on a horse... and everything will be fine."

Ruben Amorim Frustrated as Manchester United Throw Away Lead in 4-4 Thriller Against Bournemouth
Ruben Amorim criticised his team's lapses after Manchester United surrendered a lead in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Bournemouth.
What Does the Future Hold for Mainoo?
Amorim also commented on Mainoo's situation, revealing he has not discussed a potential transfer with the player but would be open to it. He explained that the team's tactical setup has limited the midfielder's role.
"The team comes first, and I will be really pleased if Kobbie comes to talk to me about that," Amorim said. "The problem is that we are playing with two midfielders, and you guys see Kobbie in a different way than I'm seeing him. Maybe if we play with three midfielders, Kobbie will have more minutes."
Last summer, Napoli was reportedly Mainoo's preferred destination, and the Italian club is expected to be a leading contender for his signature should he become available for loan in January.
