Kenyan players Duke Abuya and Elvis Rupia played to good effect as they helped Ihefu FC dent giants Simba’s title charge in the Tanzania Premier League.

Kenyan duo of Duke Abuya and Elvis Rupia combined to dent Simba SC’s title hopes in the Tanzania Premier League following a 1-1 draw against Ihefu FC on Saturday 13 April.

Rupia latched onto a long ball on the edge of the box before floating it into the box where an unmarked Abuya was stationed. The former Kenya Police midfielder showed great composure to receive the ball and with the Simba goalkeeper fumbling, he slotted into an empty net.

The goal arrived four minutes before the break and Ihefu held onto what seemed an unlikely victory until Simba found the equaliser 20 minutes from time.

Zambian ace Clatous Chama scored via the penalty spot after Kibu Dennis Proper had been brought down in the box.

Dennis and Chama had played a neat exchange of passes before the former was clipped after making his way into the box and Chama made no mistakes from the spot after sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.

However, Simba could not find the winner with Ihefu holding on for a share of the spoils which leaves Wekundu wa Msimbazi third on the table with 46 points, six behind leaders Yanga, with 10 games to go.

The draw ended Simba’s run of three straight wins in the league but continued their poor results, having been eliminated from two competitions in the last week, after back-to-back losses to Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League quarter-final, before losing on post-match penalties to Mashujaa in the Federation Cup on Tuesday.

Ihefu, meanwhile, ended a run of two straight losses and are ninth on the 16-team table with 24 points from 22 games.

Rupia and Abuya have not enjoyed good form since being forced out of Singida Fountain Gate in the midseason transfer window with the former managing three goals for his new side while the latter has netted twice for the Mbeya-based club.
