The Kenyan town is among the many places around the world that have been engraved outside the Etihad Stadium as Manchester City tries to expand its fan base across the world.

Machakos County, Kenya is among the numerous places across the world that have been engraved outside Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.

City have embarked on a mission to make themselves a global brand not just on the pitch with their dominantly good results, but also off it having launched numerous programs to connect and establish a global fan base.

Outside the stadium, the club has written down its fan branches, and writing Machakos down as one of the names is part of their efforts to also establish a following in Kenya, especially considering most Premier League followers are mostly Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal fans in the country.

It is not the first time City have made efforts to strengthen ties with the Kenyan community. On Sunday 24 March, two-time Premier League and former England international Joleon Lescott came to Kenya as part of the club’s pledge to honour their promise of sending a legend to Kenya.

This was after Nairobi’s water project gathered the highest votes in the Xylem and Cityzens Giving - the club's global charitable initiative.

The initiative aimed at spotlighting five Water Heroes Academy football projects across the world, with Bangalore, Barranquilla, Nairobi, Tacloban City, and Washington DC the cities in final contention to win the privilege.

In addition, the winning project always gets to receive additional training from Manchester City coaches in the Football and Water Education curriculum.
