Kakamega Homeboyz showed no mercy to visiting Sofapaka as they hammered them 5-0 to move to fourth place on the table as their opponents continue wallowing at the bottom

Kakamega Homeboyz added to Sofapaka’s woes when they hammered Batoto ba Mungu 5-0 in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Friday.

It was a one-hour demolition job for Homeboyz who were game set and march by the 60th minute with bottom of the table Sofapaka given no time to respond.

Homeboyz went ahead after 30 minutes when Stephen Opoku headed home from a corner kick delivered by Eston Omengo before another headed goal extended Abana Abeingo’s lead 10 minutes later.

Kevin Amwayi brought in a cross which Brain Eshihanda headed home for the second goal in favour of the hosts who would later take 4-0 lead into the break.

Eshihanda completed his brace just three minutes later, also from a header, before Ambrose Sifuna directed home Moses Shumah’s pass to put the result beyond doubt on the stroke of halftime.

Sofapaka did some damage limitations in the early proceedings of the second half but it lasted just 15 minutes before the Masinza brothers combined to give Homeboyz the fifth goal.

Christopher Masinza found the target in the 60th minute after being teed up by his younger brother Enock Masinza.

It is the eighth defeat for Sofapaka after 11 matches which leaves them bottom of the standings with seven points and coach Ezekiel Akwana will have to find a winning formula soon or face the prospect of fighting relegation for the rest of the season.

Sofapaka, who have won just two matches this season, are paying the price for a porous defence that has conceded 19 goals in 11 games, the highest in the division so far, something Akwana will need to sort out quickly.

Meanwhile, Homeboyz’s win saw them move to fourth place on the table, albeit temporarily, with 18 points, three behind leaders Posta Rangers who play against AFC Leopards on Saturday.
