A former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper has cast doubt on Pitso Mosimane's potential arrival by highlighting a key demand that could complicate his appointment.

Former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Joseph 'Banks' Setlhodi believes that while Pitso Mosimane could be a candidate for the club, his appointment would come with significant conditions, particularly regarding player recruitment.

Speculation over the future of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze has intensified following an inconsistent season for the Amakhosi.

The team's title aspirations took a hit with consecutive draws against Chippa United and TS Galaxy just before the Africa Cup of Nations break, leading to questions about the current technical team's capabilities.

Kaizer Chiefs: Former Goalkeeper on Pitso Mosimane’s Appointment

In a recent interview, the former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper expressed his doubts about the current coaching setup and discussed the challenges of bringing in a high-profile manager like Pitso Mosimane.

"When we sit down and talk about coaches, one guy said, 'What about Pitso?' I told them: Pitso is going to come with his conditions," Setlhodi explained in an interview with Soccer Laduma. "He is going to look for better players than the current ones."

Joseph Setlhodi emphasised that Pitso Mosimane's standards would make it difficult for him to work with the existing squad.

"Pitso knows exactly what kind of a team he's looking for. So it's going to be very tough for Pitso to come and coach Kaizer Chiefs now with that crop of players," he added.

Pitso Mosimane Comments on Kaizer Chiefs Situation

Pitso Mosimane himself recently commented on the situation at Kaizer Chiefs, suggesting that a turnaround would require patience, improved recruitment, and significant financial investment.

Drawing a parallel with Arsenal's recent revival, the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly coach highlighted the need for a long-term strategy.

"It's a big institution, a big club," Mosimane said. "This thing has phases, it needs a plan. Arteta took a lot of time to get Arsenal right. It takes time, you've got to believe, and invest also. I must tell you football is also money, but not all about money…it's also about recruitment."

Meanwhile, Pitso Mosimane is one of South African football's most successful and decorated coaches, notably leading Mamelodi Sundowns to five Premier Soccer League titles and the CAF Champions League.

Mosimane then took his expertise to Egypt, securing back-to-back CAF Champions League titles with African giants Al Ahly.

Currently unattached since leaving Iranian side Esteghlal in early 2025, Pitso Mosimane has frequently been linked with a position at Kaizer Chiefs.

He has publicly stated that he is open to coaching any club in the Premier Soccer League, including Kaizer Chiefs, provided the project is ambitious and presented with a proper plan.
