Harambee Stars and Rakow Czestochowa defender Eric 'Marcelo' Ouma has been ruled out for the season due to injury.

Harambee Stars and Rakow Czestochowa defender Eric ‘Marcelo’ Ouma has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to a severe injury sustained during a match on Saturday in the Polish league.

The Kenyan international was forced off the field in the 29th minute in their away clash against Zaglebie Lubin after tearing his semimembranosus muscle.

Rakow Czestochowa confirmed that Ouma would not be fit to return before the current campaign concludes on May 25.

“Eric Ouma ended the match against Zaglebie Lubin with an injury, leaving the field in the 29th minute. The tests showed that our player had a torn semimembranosus muscle. Unfortunately, we won’t see Eric on the pitch this season,” read a club statement.

Ouma’s untimely injury is a significant blow to both Rakow and the Kenyan national team.

He joined the Polish side in January after leaving Swedish club AIK, where he made 104 appearances in four seasons.

Ouma made his debut for Rakow on January 27 in a friendly match against Bulgarian champions Ludogorets Razgrad.

His absence will also be felt on the international stage as the Harambee Stars prepare for crucial upcoming matches in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers, where they are set to face Burundi and African Champions Ivory Coast in rounds three and four, respectively.

Ouma is the latest Kenyan footballer abroad to be sidelined for the rest of the season.

He follows striker Jonah Ayunga who recently underwent knee surgery that will keep him out for the final three games of the Scottish Premiership season.

With Ouma out Rakow Czestochowa faces challenges maintaining their defensive structure in the final stretch of the season.

His versatility and ability to play both wing-back and full-back roles made him a valuable asset to the Polish club.
