The former Vihiga Queens captain is the latest to depart from the FKF Women's Premier League giants, signing a two-year deal with a leading Ugandan football club.

Harambee Starlets midfielder Mercyline Wayodi has been officially unveiled as the latest addition to Ugandan top side Kampala Queens.

The 29-year-old, who previously captained Vihiga Queens, has been signed on a two-year deal by the Uganda Super League team.

Kampala Queens announced the acquisition with great enthusiasm, expressing their delight on social media.

"We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Mercyline Wayodi from Vihiga Queens FC Kenya. Mercyline pens a two-year contract deal with the Queens of Soccer. Everyone at the Palace welcomes you, Mercyline," the club stated in a heartfelt announcement.

Wayodi's career has been nothing short of remarkable. Since taking over the captaincy at Vihiga Queens in 2022, following Enez Mango's departure, she has been a pivotal figure in the team's midfield.

Her journey with Vihiga Queens began in 2021 when she signed from Kisumu All Starlets, and her impact was felt immediately on and off the pitch.

The move to Kampala Queens offers Wayodi not just a new challenge but also a reunion with former teammate, winger Anita Namata, who made the move to the Ugandan side in January 2024.

This reunion is anticipated to reignite the formidable partnership they once had at Vihiga Queens, adding an exciting dynamic to Kampala Queens' gameplay.

Wayodi's transfer is part of a broader trend of player movement involving Vihiga Queens this season.

Notable departures include Winnie Babirye, who joined Makerere Queens in Uganda, Janet Bundi moving to Yanga Princess in Tanzania, and Martha Obatta signing for Sethu FC in India.

With a career spanning multiple clubs, including Oserian Ladies, WADADIA, and Thika Queens, Wayodi brings a vast array of experience to Kampala Queens.

Her ability to cover ground, command the midfield, tackle opponents, and provide key passes will be invaluable to her new team.

Kampala Queens, eager to retain their league title, see Wayodi as a crucial addition to their squad, particularly in the central midfield department alongside Shakira Mutibwa and Damali Matama.
