Having already represented Denmark at the U19 and U20 levels, the 19-year-old prodigy has been making a mark for the  U21 national team, even scoring in their last match against Belarus.

Denmark has previously seen talented players opt to represent other nations, with FC Copenhagen's Amin Chiakha recently choosing Algeria as a notable example.

A quick look at Bischoff's profile on Transfermarkt suggests he holds Kenyan citizenship, but the player himself has clarified the situation, putting any concerns to rest.

"I don't actually have Kenyan citizenship," Bischoff told Bold. "It's only my paternal grandfather who is from Kenya, and I'm not even sure if it's possible for me to play for them."

"The thought hasn't crossed my mind, and I haven't heard anything from them. I'm just happy to be part of the Danish youth national teams," he added.

While Bischoff is thrilled to be part of the U21 setup, he also recently earned a mention from the new senior national team coach, Brian Riemer, signaling a bright future ahead.

Who is Mutahi Bischoff?

Born on December 16, 2005, Clement Mutai Bischoff started his football education at local Amager clubs Sundby Boldklub and AC Academy. His talent was soon spotted by Danish powerhouse Brøndby IF, who signed him to their academy in January 2022.

His progress was swift. After signing an initial two-year deal, his impressive performances earned him a contract extension to 2024 within months. Ahead of the 2023-24 season, he was promoted to the first team for pre-season training.

Bischoff made his professional debut on September 27, 2023, in a 3-0 Danish Cup victory over HIK. His continued development led to another contract extension, this time until 2026. He made his Danish Superliga debut on February 25, 2024, in a 3-0 win against OB.

The 2024-25 season marked his breakthrough into the starting eleven. He scored on his first start for Brøndby in a 3-3 draw with Viborg on July 21 and made his European debut days later, contributing to a 6-0 demolition of Kosovan side Llapi in the UEFA Conference League.

Premier League Interest Intensifies

Bischoff's performances first caught the eye of Brighton & Hove Albion, who were reportedly prepared to pay around €8 million (Ksh 1.2 billion) for the young talent. However, negotiations with Brøndby ultimately stalled, keeping him in Denmark.

Despite further interest from Wolves and Sunderland, Bischoff decided to sign for RB Salsburg at the start of September instead, and at the time or recording, already has a goal and two assists in seven league appearances so far in Austria.

An International Tug-of-War: Kenya or Denmark?

While Bischoff has represented Denmark at the youth level, even scoring on his U19 debut in September 2023, his senior international future is not yet decided.

Bischoff represented Denmark at the UEFA U21 Euros last summer which may suggest a preference, but he remains uncapped at the senior level.

This leaves the door open for Kenya. Bischoff is eligible to play for the Harambee Stars through his father's heritage.

New national team coach Benni McCarthy has been actively scouting players with Kenyan roots to bolster his squad. Should Bischoff choose Kenya, he would join a list of diaspora players being courted, including Everton's Tyler Onyango and Tottenham's Djed Spence.

With his versatility and technical skill, Clement Mutahi Bischoff is undoubtedly a player to watch, both in the current transfer market and on the international stage.
