Gor Mahia will be out to extend their lead against struggling Nzoia Sugar in a high-stakes Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash in Homa Bay

Defending champions Gor Mahia are all set to showcase their mettle as they host Nzoia Sugar FC in what promises to be an exhilarating Football Kenya Federation Premier League clash at the Raila Odinga Stadium this Saturday afternoon.

With a stark contrast in league standings, as Gor Mahia reign supreme at the top while Nzoia Sugar languish in the relegation zone, occupying the 17th spot out of 18 teams, this match holds significant implications for both sides.

Gor Mahia is on the cusp of extending their lead by a substantial five-point margin if they can secure a victory against the struggling Sugar Millers.

KOgalo's ascent to the summit was confirmed in dramatic fashion after a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Kariobangi Sharks during Match Day 13.

This pivotal win allowed them to leapfrog over Posta Rangers, seizing command of the league.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry is brimming with optimism regarding his team's performance against Nzoia Sugar.

"We managed to contain our opponents throughout the match, and that speaks volumes about our current form. Hopefully, we shall be able to maintain the momentum in our subsequent assignments because every team we meet is determined to beat us," he said.

On the other hand, Nzoia Sugar find themselves in a dire situation, having suffered defeat in their last three encounters.

With just nine points to their name, they are second from the bottom in the league standings.

Their most recent setback was a 3-1 loss against a depleted Sofapaka side.

The Sugar Millers are now in dire need of redemption, and they will be fervently striving to make amends when they face Gor Mahia in Homa Bay.

While the odds may seem stacked against Nzoia Sugar, football often springs surprises.

The head-to-head record between Gor Mahia and Nzoia Sugar over the last five matches is remarkably balanced, with three encounters ending in draws, and each side claiming one victory.

In their last meeting, Nzoia Sugar displayed their resilience as they twice came from behind to hold Gor Mahia to a thrilling 2-2 draw.

Austin Odhiambo gave Gor Mahia a first-half lead, but Ian Karani equalized for Nzoia. Benson Omala then converted from the spot to put Gor ahead, only for James Kibande to equalize, also from the penalty spot.

In other fixtures, KCB, who settled for a 1-1 draw against the newly promoted Shabana in their last match, will be hosting FC Talanta.

Murang'a Seal, keen to halt a streak of three matches without a victory, will face the formidable Ulinzi Stars.

Nairobi City fresh off a 1-0 victory oer Posta Rangers will aim to make it two wins in a row as they take on Bandari.
