Lydia Akoth is relishing a new challenge with Yanga Princes as she heads to Tanzania.

Police Bullets FC, the reigning FKF-Women Premier League (FKF-WPL) champions, have announced the departure of their star midfielder, Lydia Akoth.

The marquee midfielder, affectionately nicknamed "Ozil" for her remarkable creativity and technical prowess similar to that of former Arsenal midfield maestro Mesut Ozil, is set to join Tanzanian giants Yanga Princess.

The club shared the news with a heartfelt farewell message, acknowledging Akoth's immense contributions.

“Lydia Akoth -ozil As you embark on this new chapter of your journey, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for everything you’ve done for the team. Your talent, dedication, and passion have left an indelible mark, and we are proud to have been part of your story. Wishing you all the best in this next phase of your career. Keep shining, Ankara Messi Akothee.”

Akoth played a pivotal role in Police Bullets' unbeaten title-winning campaign last season. The midfielder's seven goals and creative influence were crucial as the side dominated the league, recording 15 wins and four draws.

Her outstanding performance earned her the coveted FKF-WPL Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the 2023/24 season.

This move to Yanga Princess marks a significant step in Akoth's career, as she joins one of Tanzania's most prominent women's football clubs.

Her departure comes as Police Bullets aim to defend their league title this season. The team currently sits second in the FKF-WPL standings with 21 points, just one point behind league leaders Kibera Soccer Women.

Their next task in the absence of their talismanic midfielder is a tricky away fixture to Kisumu All Starlets at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday.
