FKF president Hussein Mohammed led stakeholders in congratulating Junior Starlets following their deserved 2-0 win over Uganda on Saturday.

Junior Starlets took a big step in their bid to qualify for the second consecutive World Cup by beating Uganda 2-0 in the first leg of the qualifiers. 

The match, played at the Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo in Uganda on Saturday afternoon, saw Kenya put in a classy, all-round performance courtesy of first half goals

Goals from Edinah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola was all that the Mildred Cheche-coached side required to silence their rivals in their own backyard with the second leg set for Nairobi on March 16.

Football Kenya Federation president Hussein Mohammed took to X, formerly twitter, to express his satisfaction about the performance saying: "Congratulations Junior Starlets on your deserved victory against Uganda, let's maintain the momentum as we gear up for the second leg."

Cabinet Secretary for Sports Salim Mvurya on his part, acknowledged the goalscorers and the entire team for showing grit. "Congratulations to the Harambee Junior Starlets on their impressive 2-0 victory against Uganda in the U10 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifiers! A brilliant display saw Edinah Nasipwondi and Joan Ogola find the back of the net, sealing the win in style. Well done, champions!"

Former Liverpool and Senegal star El Hadji Diouf graced the match.

Should the Junior Starlets sail to the last round of the qualifiers, they will meet with either Cameroon or Ethiopia and the winner wil book one of the three slots reserved for Africa. The 2026 showpiece will he held in Morocco.

Junior Starlets became the first Kenyan team, male or female, to play at the World Cup after making their debut in the competition at the Dominican Republic. .
