AFC Leopards’ comedy of defensive errors left them embarrassed as their off-field problems spilled over to the pitch, handing struggling FC Talanta a big win.

AFC Leopards’ off-field issues spilled onto the pitch as the players put up a horror show to hand FC Talanta an easy 4-2 victory in the FKF Premier League at the Dandora Stadium on Saturday.

Talanta must have been surprised by how easy it was to dispatch Leopards and they did it in some style and disrespectful fashion.

Leopards came into the match on the back of a go-slow after the players had boycotted training on Thursday, demanding full payment of their December salaries, and played like the off-field issues were still bothering them.

Ingwe fans might have thought that the players had put all that behind when the home side went ahead after 11 minutes. Lewis Bandi’s defence-splitting pass fell to Clifton Miheso and the winger fired in but the Talanta goalkeeper punched his effort away, the ball falling to Boniface Munyendo who tapped in the rebound for 1-0 in favour of Leopards.

Leopards’ lead, however, lasted for just three minutes before Talanta drew level, Kevin Owino curling in a delicious freekick that goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi could not keep out.

Four minutes later, Talanta were celebrating the second after a swift counter attacking move saw them exchange passes in the box before Alex Kipruto fired home the rebound with Katasi having kept out Emmanuel Osoro’s initial effort.

From then on, a comedy of errors involving the Leopards defence and Katasi ensued and they paid dearly. Leopards were let off the hook when Osoro missed an open goal in the 22nd minute.

A defensive mix-up between Kennedy Owino and Katasi saw the goalkeeper miskick the ball, and it fell to Osoro who found himself behind the goalkeeper and with the goal at his mercy, he could not find the target.

There was no denying Osoro, however, five minutes after halftime and he did it in a manner that left a bitter taste in the mouth for Leopards fans.

Katasi and his defenders again failed to clear the ball after trying to play out from the back and what seemed like an easy ball to kick away was played casually.

Osoro robbed the goalkeeper, getting to the goal and sitting on the ball to get it past the line before pushing it in the net as the Ingwe defence was left looking jaded while the fans were furious in the stands.

Leopards coach Fred Ambani responded by taking off Katasi for Abubakar Musha but there was not much change as Kipruto received the ball in plenty of space before firing home when none of the Ingwe defenders got tighter to him.

It was an embarrassing show that saw Leopards fans hurl insults from the stands while some started streaming out of the stadium even before the 60th minute mark in disappointment.

Leopards found the second in time added on through Maxwell Otieno but it was too little too late.

Leopards therefore missed a chance to move to fourth on the table, as they remained in sixth place with 22 points, while Talanta’s win lifted them from second from bottom up to 15th on the log with 17 points.
